On Wednesday, June 18, the Studio of the Husa na provázku theatre turned into a space where something that is completely common but still taboo was talked about without shame – menstruation.

The debate on the detabooization of menstruation and menstrual poverty offered more than just important facts and alarming contexts. The discussion was attended by three amazing women, representatives of Czech and Slovak organizations: @solapomaha, @dostojnamenstruacia and @intymyta. They brought not only expert perspectives, but also real-life stories that evoked laughter, understanding and moments of silence in the audience.

Together we talked about:

  • who menstrual poverty really affects and why it is important to talk aboutmenstruating people, not just women,
  • what help looks like in practice – and what the fight for systemic change means,
  • how stigma affects education, healthcare and everyday dignity,
  • why menstrual justice is a matter of human rights and social justice.

The debate was moderated by Terézia Ferjančeková – a well-known face of the podcastVyhonit ďábla i educational series Na záchodcích for ČT. Terézia, with her insight and understanding, held a space where people spoke without shame, openly and with respect for every experience.

The evening showed that when menstruation is talked about directly, sharing can be liberating, healing – and even funny. Thank you to everyone who came to listen, ask questions and share.

And a big thanks also goes to Divadlo Husa na provázku, for allowing us to be in their space.
