Horní patro IPN | admission voluntary, but recommended — seat reservation possible
Join us for an engaging debate moderated by Denisa Krásná, featuring experts Iveta Jansová, Michal Pitoňák, and Charles M. Elavsky, as we delve into the complex political and media narratives surrounding queer communities in both the Czech Republic and the United States.
In this timely discussion, we’ll explore how the political rhetoric of "protecting children" is being used to justify anti-queer policies, how media representations shape public perception, and the real-life impacts these narratives have on queer individuals. From the rise of anti-trans legislation in the U.S. to the growing conservative shifts in Czech politics, we’ll examine how queer identities are framed in the media and the psychological effects these stigmatizing discourses have on individuals. We’ll also discuss strategies for resistance, activism, and how we can collectively build resilience in the face of increasing discrimination. This debate is crucial, as it highlights not only the challenges queer people face today but also the importance of solidarity, visibility, and standing up for human dignity in a time of global conservative pushback. Whether you’re an activist, an ally, or just looking to learn, this debate will offer valuable insights into how we can confront and challenge harmful narratives together.
🎟️ Recommended admission for the event is 100 CZK. The venue has limited capacity, but you can reserve your spot in advance.
